Summary

A stranger on the subway has a bone to pick with the concert industry: the volume's cranked way too high. Kareem initially agrees, then wavers, but the riders bring him back with a killer analogy: "Giving out earplugs at a concert is like giving out sunglasses at a movie theater." They riff on Spinal Tap's amps going to 11 (when 9 would've been fine) and joke that maybe Freddie Mercury should've cranked it down instead of up in Bohemian Rhapsody. The conversation gets increasingly meta as they realize they're talking too loud themselves. By the end, they're whispering their take. Oh, and they ask about subway swipe reimbursement. The answer's no.

So, what's your take? We think that concerts are just a little too loud.

100% agree. It's like if you go to a movie and it's like too bright, it doesn't make any sense. Like music should be heard at a specific volume.

Actually, you know what? I think I disagree.

No, no, no. Listen, listen. I think

No, we're not asking for much. Check it out. Listen. A concert shouldn't be a place where they hand out earplugs to protect your ears. It's a place for art that is meant to be heard and there's earplugs there. Like, it's a standard thing. Even the hardcore people are like, you know, give me those earplugs. I mean, I you're right. I was wrong and then I was right and then I was wrong. I I guess what they should not it shouldn't be loud enough that you have to wear earplugs.

Giving out earplugs at a concert is like giving out sunglasses at a movie theater.

When they invented music, they weren't like this is great. It should just be like way louder. We had it when we like invented it, you know? I bet there was like, you know, some medieval version of, you know, this show Subway Takes where some guy was like, "Oh, make the music too loud. Make it louder." Cuz they didn't have speakers. Then they invented all that and it kind of went too far and I think it's maybe gotten a little out of hand.

It's like Spinal Tap when they have like they turned it to 11. It was kind of fine at 10 or maybe even like nine.

Even nine could have been nice.

Good.

It's like that scene in Bohemian Rhapsody where it's like right before their concert he pulls off the sticker and he like cranks it up. Maybe he should have cranked it just a bit down. I think everyone would have had a little better of a time.

Yeah, agree.

I also agree.

Yeah.

Everything's loud. I think we should turn down everything just a bit. Just like lower the level.

Like if it's at 17, we should just put it at 15.

I even think that maybe this whole time we've kind of been talking a little too loud.

I think that you guys a bit too loud.

Maybe for your next take you kind of just bring it down a little bit.

I'll try it from the top. So what's your take?

Our take is that like concert should be are like too loud right now. A little bit lower.

Also, are we, are we going to get reimbursed for the subway swipe? No.
