The music coming out of the UK right now is the best in the world

Summary

A UK music fan makes a bold claim: the music coming out of the UK right now is the best in the world. Kareem agrees, though he points out the Beatles as a historical counterpoint. The rider reveals he's part of the new wave himself and name-drops Central Cee and Jim Legacy as frontrunners in UK rap. He shouts out SD Kid, a Scouse rapper from Liverpool who's blown up across the Atlantic. The conversation turns to why the UK punches above its weight musically, with the rider crediting competition in such a tiny place. It's all thanks to the internet, they agree. Kareem tries on a British accent, calling his new friend "darling" before they part ways.

So, what's your take? The music coming out of the UK right now is the best in the world.

How do you feel about that? You know what? I'm 100% agree. I've been hearing a lot about this UK rap, UK rock, UK everything.

We got it all, man. We got it all.

So, right now, this is the—what about the Beatles? Okay. The Beatles.

Got me there. Oh, no. That's good. Yeah. I mean, that's great.

Yeah.

Yeah. Who's the new uh the new wave? There's a lot of us, but—

Oh, you're in the wave? Oh, yeah. I guess so.

You're self-promoting? I'm here to promote uh this country, UK, mate.

It's not a country, it's England. But you know what I'm saying? What—what do you think about that? I'd like to hear your opinion. I don't know. I—I know Central C. Jim Legacy. That's—that's the man right there. He's—

I mean, someone like Jim Legacy is one of the front runners of I'd say UK rap, but just UK music in general. I think my main thing is how small the UK is, let's say, compared to the US and how much quality and talent there is. That comes from a lot of competition. That probably comes from somewhat of a crabs in a bucket mindset. Oh yeah, I know the crabs in the bucket.

You think people are doing that here? It's just a tiny place in the UK. So I think like for what we're doing, I think it's amazing.

Who do you work with right now though in the UK?

Yeah.

Yeah. Jim, I want to shout SD Kid as well.

Oh yeah, he's popping.

He's a Scouse rapper. What does that mean?

So Scouse, you're from Liverpool, you know. For me, just to have a Scouse rapper kind of cross the Atlantic and like just be huge, not just in in America, but in in Europe. I think that's just a big thing. And I think it's just a crazy concept that back in the day you might not have actually—

really fathomed. It's because of the internet.

It's cuz the internet.

Are you pro-internet? Yeah, I'd say so.

I like the— We're here, man.

I know. We're on the internet right now. We're literally on the internet right now.

What's this thing about the accent? I like the accent.

You like the accent? I love the accent.

Everyone loves the accent, right?

Yeah.

Yeah. All right, darling. I respect you, darling.

How do I say it, darling? Darling.

All right, darling. All right.
