I hate hidden fees

Summary

Hidden fees are ruining everything, according to a straphanger who's ready to fight over surprise charges. The frustration peaks at dispensaries, where a $12 pre-roll somehow becomes $18 with mysterious ATM fees tacked onto card taps. Bodegas aren't safe either. The rider's got a system though: hold a grudge, never return, and find a competitor across the street. Brooklyn's got plenty of options. Kareem probes the tax versus fee distinction while his conversation partner admits that arguing with bodega guys is basically morning coffee. The take? If it says $10, it better be $10, or there's going to be words.

So, what's your take? I hate hidden fees. 100% agree. I mean, who doesn't hate hidden fees?

Well, I hate hidden fees in places where they shouldn't be. Like, where? Dispensaries, bodegas. They got hidden fees at bodegas. Yeah. I never see a hidden fee. If it says $7.99, they're like, "It's $7.99." That's never happened to me. They're like $7.99, it's $8.60. That's called taxes, bro.

Yeah. Tell me the taxes. You want all prices to include the taxes. Let me see the whole thing. Oh, because it's plus tax. They always, they say $10 plus tax. You know how much the tax is.

See, and that's the thing. It's like, all right, if it's plus tax, fine, right? But they getting off, they're going off the the fact that we don't really pay with cash anymore. So we just tap and it's like fees. So they could be taxing the tax. I was at a dispensary maybe a couple weeks ago. I asked for a pre-roll. She was like, "Oh, these are, this is $12." I was like, "I'll take the $12 one." Right. By the time I paid for it, it came out to like $18 and change. I was like, "That's way too."

What were the fees? They had the ATM fee, like, like, like an ATM fee on the tap. That's very sneaky. I don't always fuss about them, but inside I'll be, I'm pissed. I hold a grudge. I'm like, I'm not coming back to the store.

What if the bodega's right next door to your house? I've had that happen before and you quit. I went across the street to the one with no hidden fees.

Yeah, there's a lot of bodegas in Brooklyn. There is a lot of competition and they get real forgetful of that. There's a lot of competition. I think it's the only place I can get M&Ms. Peace. I'm out. In a heartbeat. I don't need this place.

Well, I feel like, what are you trying to gas me up for if it's, if it's not $10, but it comes out to $12? Like, 20/12. I can, I can look at that and make a decision. If they got a price and they try to give me a different price, we fighting. We arguing. I don't drink coffee in the morning. That's like my morning coffee. Arguing bodega, guys.

I can get behind that. Yeah.
