Each NYC neighborhood should have a sports club that competes in a yearly

Summary

A straphanger pitches a brilliantly chaotic idea: every NYC neighborhood gets its own sports club that competes in a yearly tournament. The concept snowballs fast. Upper West Side versus Upper East Side in basketball. Astoria crushing Williamsburg in soccer but losing in track and field. The best matchups get increasingly specific and absurd. Red Hook takes javelin because "even the hipsters down in Red Hook are pretty rough looking." Staten Island dominates shooting since all the cops live there. Kareem throws out Bushwick versus Upper East Side, and the rider doesn't hesitate: Upper East would destroy them. The prize? A massive statue placed in the neighborhood of your choice. This rider would stick theirs in Bushwick "as a big joke." Hoboken tries to enter the chat but gets immediately rejected because it's New Jersey.

So, what's your take? In each neighborhood, we should have a sports club and they should all compete in a yearly tournament.

100% agree. That's an amazing idea. Not just everybody's going to be happier and in healthy and eats better and go to sleep early. It's going to create a great community and it's going to be so fun.

Is it all sports like the Olympics or is it one sport?

What's your favorite sport? I guess basketball.

I'll do soccer. Archery.

So there's going to be different sports for different people. Oh yeah. And it'll be like a tournament like the Upper West Side versus the Upper East Side.

I can't wait to watch Ridgewood versus Upper East. I want to watch Ridgewood versus Soho.

What about Bushwick and Lower East Side? No, Bushwick and Aubrey side. I think Upper East Side would kick Bushwick's ass.

What about Astoria and Williamsburg? Easy. Astoria wins.

Oh, damn. Okay. At least in soccer.

Okay. Track and field. Williamsburg.

Mm. I want to see the boxing match.

Ooh, boxing match. Flushing versus the Bronx. No, Bronx. I would love to watch that. Bronx is gonna destroy it.

Is Hoboken going to be involved or not? New Jersey. Sorry. Uh, no, it's not that important.

All right, javelin toss. Lower East Side versus Red Hook. Definitely Red Hook. There's some tough people.

Okay, they're down there throwing axes. Even the hipsters down in Red Hook are pretty rough looking.

So this is a great idea. What do you win?

What would you like to win? I would like to win a statue. Okay.

In the neighborhood of my choice. Okay. So I would put a statue of a... a massive in Bushwick if I won.

That's valid. You can because it would be a big joke.

It's really mean. Shooting. What about shooting?

Oh, like that Turkish guy. Yeah. That guy was awesome.

That guy was awesome. Yeah. For shooting, Staten Island. Staten Island. Shooting, Staten Island. All the cops live there.

I think it would be Brownsville. Brownsville. I don't know.
